Feed raw materials of the future
To help the aquaculture industry reduce its environmental footprint and increase self-sufficiency, we must work together to ensure that we can produce
high-quality protein sources in Norway.
Fermentation is part of the solution
Food production and protein shortage
A global shortage of protein ingredients has already been identified and it is estimated that global food production will need to increase by more than 60% by 2050. At the same time,
we need to ensure that food production is sustainable, as today's
food production accounts for more than 25% of the world's
greenhouse gas emissions (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
The social mission for sustainable feed
Today, only 8% of raw materials are produced in Norway and only 0.4% are so-called new raw materials. By 2034, at least 25% of ingredients for fish feed must be Norwegian and sustainable.
Synergies and volume
BIO3 is working to achieve the goals and sustainable feed ingredients,
and then we have to talk about volume and synergies. We need to increase the volume
to be a relevant player in the market, which is why we are choosing to scale
up already in the pilot with 30,000 tons, and when fully developed we can supply 100,000 tons of protein ingredients. This requires good cooperation between several players. We are planning a factory located together with several exciting and relevant companies, where we all have the opportunity to use side streams and strengthen our knowledge. You can read more about this here: https://www.norseaatlantic.com/en
Our product is based on PEKILO
We have a fermentation process based on different side streams, in our process we can choose between different side streams. The reason we have such a
flexible solution is based on our partner Enifer BIO and their product "PEKILO" which we will use. https://enifer.com/
